The 3 things you HAVE TO know about a Misfuel!

AdBlue In Diesel

All around Gloucestershire we are noticing an increasing number of instances of AdBlue contamination where a driver has put AdBlue inside their diesel tank. This is to some extent as a result of people being unsure of the way to to make use of (remember: it is not a fuel additive), and in part due to the fact that the inlets for diesel and AdBlue are typically directly near to each other on the car.

So, exactly what is the matter with having AdBlue in a diesel vehicle?

Seeing as the product is mainly ionised water, it is nearly as good as putting water in to your tank. Diesel and water will not mix in any way and attempting to run a diesel car on water will never work. Additionally, the urea is highly corrosive to the fuel system hoses and seals and is susceptible to crystalising, obstructing injectors and filters. In the case you poured AdBlue in a fuel tank remove it right away. And certainly take care not to turn over the engine - not even to move it into a parking place. In the instance that you did start the car you will probably have to have the whole fuel system cleaned and fuel filters changed.

Phone us in the event that you have suffered from AdBlue contamination. We can certainly help. We are Contaminated Fuel Specialists and will take care of every type of AdBlue contamination.

  1. How is the car responding? There are some very common misfuel symptoms which can be a good indicator of wrong fuel:
    • Loss of engine power – can feel like the car has run out of fuel
    • A lot of smoke (more than usual)
    • Engine coughing or starting to splutter
    • Won’t start – or keeps stalling.
  2. Look at your fuel receipt. It will state clearly if you filled up with diesel or unleaded.
